Pietramora

Bottled only in vintages considered to be of proper level, Pietramora expresses the maximum which Sangiovese can give in our vineyards, both those trained to a Gobelet system (and by now these have become the majority) and those trained to a cordon de Royat system and, accordingly, considerably older in age. With the sole exception of Scaccomatto, Pietroamora is the wine which is most dear to us and, more than any other, reflects – and we wish that it be so – the character of the vintage: from the austere tannins of the 1995 and 1998 to the supple texture of the 1997, from the alcoholic opulence of the 2000 to the faultless completeness of the 2001. A bit of Ancellotta, never more than 3%, completes the blend in virtually every vintage.

From the 2003 vintage up through the 2008 vintage, the wine fermented in 500 liter puncheons, a technique which has given an additional push to the expression of the personality of this outstanding Sangiovese and to the expression of Zerbina’s terroir as well.
